We offer a free consultation so you can ask questions, share what you're looking for, and see if Sankofa feels like a good fit.
Whether you're curious about working with a licensed or pre-licensed clinician, want to know more about our approach, or simply need to talk to a real human before booking—this is your space to explore next steps without pressure.
We believe choosing the right therapist is part of your healing—not just a checkbox.
Let’s start with a conversation.
Please reach us at shawntresparks@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.
Yes. While our mission centers the healing and liberation of women and femmes of the global majority, we welcome all clients whose needs align with our services and who are a clinically appropriate fit. We never discriminate or turn away someone based on gender, identity, or background.
That said, we are deeply specialized in the care of Black women and other women of color, and our training, supervision, and community offerings reflect that focus. If you're not part of this population but feel connected to our approach, you're still welcome here—and if it’s not the right clinical match, we’ll do our best to refer you to someone who is.
During your first session with Sankofa Health Collective, your therapist will ask you questions to get to know you better and understand what brings you to counseling. You will also have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have about the counseling process.
Licensed clinicians have completed all clinical training, passed their board exams, and can practice independently. Pre-licensed clinicians (aka trainees or associates) are still under clinical supervision as part of their graduate or post-grad training. When you work with a pre-licensed clinician at Sankofa, you’re getting double support—fresh, research-backed approaches and behind-the-scenes guidance from a seasoned supervisor.
Not all—but every clinician at Sankofa is trained in culturally responsive, liberation-centered care. Our team includes women of the global majority and allies who deeply understand our mission. Every intern and staff member is here because they’re committed to providing safe, affirming care to clients of color—and we do the vetting so you don’t have to.
A counseling session with Sankofa Health Collective typically lasts for 50 minutes, although session length may vary depending on your specific needs and preferences.
We do not bill insurance directly, but many clients use Open Path Collective to access reduced-rate sessions. We can also provide superbills if your insurance plan includes out-of-network mental health benefits.
At this time, all Sankofa services are provided via secure Telehealth. That means you can join your session from your living room, car, or quiet corner of the world—no traffic or awkward waiting rooms required.
Start by browsing OUR TEAM to get a feel for each clinician’s approach. You can also book a free consultation to ask questions and see if the vibe feels aligned. We’re happy to guide you if you’re not sure where to start.
